Human Research Protection Program
SDSU assumes responsibility for the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects in accordance with federal regulations and SDSU's Federal Wide Assurance issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Institutional Review Board (IRB), a standing committee of the University Research Council, reviews research involving human subjects to ensure that all projects conform to the federal and institutional regulations and policies. This site is designed to provide access to information for the faculty, students, and employee's of SDSU who plan to conduct research that involves human subjects.
The IRB application development, submission, and review process is now web based. All new protocols are submitted using the vIRB.
Due to temporary staff reductions, additional time may be needed to complete the review of your protocol. (Current protocol review times may take approximately four weeks.) Please be patient and know that your work is important to us. To maximize efficiency, we will respond to your calls and electronic communications as soon as possible.
